ADK Paintball Biathlon Series for Kids!

NYSEF Cross-Country Team kicks off the race season in Craftsbury, VT!

Craftsbury Common, VT – Over the past weekend, the New York Ski Education Foundation (NYSEF) Nordic team traveled to Craftsbury, Vermont to compete in the season’s first NENSA Eastern Cup and Junior National qualifying races. The two-day event included a 1.5 kilometer sprint Saturday morning, a 3 kilometer prologue Saturday afternoon, and a 5/10 kilometer distance race on Sunday. Due to the lack of snow so far this winter, all races were held on a challenging 1.5 kilometer manmade loop. Both races on Saturday were of the classic technique, while the distance races on Sunday were of the freestyle technique. All races featured very strong fields including some of the best high school, collegiate, professional, and former Olympic athletes competing.

On Saturday morning, NYSEF’s Maile Sapp (Morrisonville, NY) led the way with an overall finish of 35th, and 6th in the J1 age group. Nina Armstrong (Lake Placid, NY) and Maeve Peabody (Keene, NY) had impressive showings placing 9th and 10th in the J2 age group. Amelia McDonnell (Paul Smiths, NY) and Emma Zdgiebloski (Lake George, NY) also competed in the sprint event finishing 17th and 41st in their respective age groups. On the boy’s side, Will Fieroh (Paul Smiths, NY) placed 50th and Evan Greenburg (Saranac Lake, NY) placed 54th in the J1 class.

Saturday’s afternoon 3 kilometer prologue saw Maile Sapp put another nice race together finishing 45th overall and 8th in her age group. J2’s Nina Armstrong and Maeve Peabody finished 9th and 13th in the J2 class. Amelia McDonnell and Emma Zdgiebloski also had solid races placing 21st and 40th in their age class. Will Fieroh had a strong race in the afternoon placing 55th in the J1 age group. Evan Greenburg also competed in the afternoon.

Sunday’s race brought cold temperatures and lightning fast courses, as the Women raced 5 kilometers and the Men raced 10 kilometers. Maile Sapp led the way again placing 77th overall and 13th in the J1 class. Nina Armstrong and Maeve Peabody had solid grouping finishing 8th and 10th for J2s. Emma Zdgiebloski finished 52nd in her age group. On the boy’s side, Evan Greenburg placed 54th in the J1 class.

NYSEF Nordic continues the race season when the group travels to Rumford, Maine to compete in the US National Championships, January 1-8, 2012.
