Harry Eldridge trophy

The times have been added up for the annual Harry Eldridge Memorial trophy! Awarded to the junior athlete with the best combined time from the NYSEF Lake Placid SuperTour/JOQ races, UVM student-athletes Scott Patterson (Anchorage, AK) and Amy Glen (Anchorage, AK) were this years' champions. Harry Eldridge was a long time supporter of cross-country skiing in Lake Placid. Russian Hill at Mt. Van Hoevenberg is also called Harry’s Hill. Congratulations to Scott and Amy!

Learn 2 Fly!

Learn 2 Fly Wednesdays of 2011 is just around the corner! Wednesday, January 5th from 3-5:30 will be our first session. This year should be even better than last, and we’re hoping for a great turnout. These events are specifically tailored towards getting young athletes interested in the sports of Ski Jumping and Nordic combined in a fun, supportive environment. Click here for the flyer with details!

What? Learn 2 Fly Wednesdays! Our fun learn to ski jump and xc ski events. We’ll have NYSEF coaches on hand to show you all the tricks to have you flying and gliding in no time. Think fun ski play jumps, cross country relays and sprint loops, and of course jumping on our K5 and K18 meter landing hills and jumps!

When? January 5th, 12th, 18th (Tuesday before Freestyle WorldCup), and 26th from 3-5:30 pm

Where? Olympic Ski Jumps, Lake Placid. Check-in on the second floor of the Base Lodge.

Cost? Only $5 for first-year jumpers! $25 for athletes who have jumped before.

Equipment? Bring your alpine boots, skis and helmet if you’d like to try jumping. If you’d like to try XC skiing, bring your boots, skis and poles. We’ll have plenty of cross country equipment to loan out as well, generously provided by the Lake Placid Elementary School P.E. program. We also have jumping gear available free of charge for athletes who would like to try the real deal.

Cool—how do I sign up?! No pre-registration required! Just come meet us at the Base Lodge of the Ski Jumps, fill out some paperwork, and you’ll be cleared for takeoff.

Questions? Email NYSEF Junior Jump Coach David McCahill at davem (at) nysef.org, or check out the L2F flyer for more details.

We’ll see you on the hill this Wednesday!
