ADK Paintball Biathlon Event #4

The Adirondack Paintball Biathlon Series continued with Event #4 on Tuesday, February 21 at the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex in Lake Placid. The series moves on to Dewey Mountain Recreation Center on March 10.

New England JNQ / Eastern Cup Finals at Craftsbury!

NYSEF athletes had a fantastic weekend of racing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center for the final New England JNQ of the winter.

The race weekend kicked off with a classic individual race on Saturday. The team was lead by Nina Armstrong placing 6th in the J2 girls 5km classic race. Teammates Maeve Peabody followed in 9th, Anna Izzo in 11th, Gabby Armstrong in 30th and Amelia McDonnell in 36th. Karl Schulz skied into 23rd in the J2 boys class. Will Fieroh skied a strong 10 km classic race for 22nd in the J1 boys class. Emma Zdgiebloski represented Northwood School in fine form and cruised into 25th in the J1 girls class.

On Sunday, the event of choice was a freestyle mass start! The day started off with with the J2 girls hammering 5 kilometers and Nina fought hard for 7th, Anna 10th, Maeve 14th, Gabby 16th and Amelia 25th. Karl showed his Nordic combined skating skills and worked up in the mass start to 16th place! Next up, it was Emma's turn to tackle her first 10 km - and a great job she did! Steady pacing lead Emma to a 20th place finish in the J1 girls catagory. The final show of the day was the Men's 15km freestyle race. Will skied into 29th place for J1 boys, despite some major calf cramping on the third lap. Coach Steve put the bib on for his Eastern Cup showing of the winter and cruised into 3rd in the SR class.

Evan Greenberg is NYSEF's "marathon man" competing in race after race this winter. 2 down, 2 to go! Craftsbury Marathon done in 2:56:56. Gatinaeu Loppet done in 3:24:44. Lake Placid Loppet March 10! US Nationals 50 km at Craftsbury March 31! Way to go Evan!

Mid-Atlantic BKL Festival

Aiden and Kaleb were all smiles after strong performances at the 2012 Mid-Atlantic BKL Festival in Old Forge, hosted by the Polar Bears Ski Club! Kaleb skied in 5th in the freestyle race and Aiden grabbed 7th. Both hammered the classic race and Kaleb cruised to 2nd, while Aiden placed 5th. Way to go!

ADK Paintball Biathlon Event #4

Event #4 is a GO on Tuesday 3/21 at the Olympic Jumping Complex!

Registration is from 2 –2:30 pm at the base lodge. Event start at 3 pm. $10 registration fee. $5 special entry fee for NYSEF, LPSC, ORDA Pathfinder, Dewey Mt, and TLNSC athletes.

We will need parent/volunteer help in the range – please email Steve stevev (at) nysef.org or Margaret margm (at) nysef.org if you can help out.

NE JNQ at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT

It was an awesome 2 days of racing at the New England JNQ / Eastern Cup / UVM Carnival at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT. Pretty sweet to finally be able to race on a full 5-kilometer course this winter!

Maile lead the charge for the NYSEF team with a 7th place finish in the J1 girls race - an impressive result in a competitive field! Nina, Anna and Maeve went 11th, 13th and 26th in the J2 race.

Day 2 of racing brought strong results for the J2 girls with Nina finishing 7th, Anna in 11th and Maeve in 17th. Maile cranked out 10 kilometers for a 18th place finish in the J1 girls class.

NYSEF Nordic heading to Utah for USSA Junior National Championships!

Canandaigua, NY – The NYSEF Nordic team traveled to Bristol Mountain Nordic Center to compete in USSA Junior National Qualifying races. The two-day event featured both freestyle races and classic races on a 1.2 kilometer man-made loop of snow. The results were used to name the 2012 USSA Mid-Atlantic Junior National Ski Team heading to Utah in March.

Will Fieroh (Paul Smiths) skied well to place 10th in the J1 boys (16-17 years old) freestyle 10-kilomteter race in 25:58. In the J1 girls’ race, Maile Sapp (Morrisonville) raced into 7th place and Emma Zdgiebloski (Lake George) placed 15th. In the J2 girls (14-15 years old) competition, Nina Armstrong (Lake Placid) hammered the 7.5 kilometer course to finish in 20:34, earning a 2nd place finish. She was followed by teammates Maeve Peabody (Keene), Anna Izzo (Lake Placid), and Amelia McDonnell (Paul Smiths) who placed 4th, 6th and 10th respectively.

Day two of racing brought cooler temperatures and improved results for the NYSEF team. Both the J1 and J2 girls’ age groups raced a 5-kilometer classic race. Maile Sapp claimed the overall victory with a 5-second win for the NYSEF team in 15:48. Northwood School’s Emma Zdgieblowski finished 16th in the J1 girls race. Nina Armstrong paced the way with another 2nd place finish in 16:28, only 18 seconds off the winning pace in the J2 girls’ 5-kilometer classic race. Maeve Peabody also claimed a spot on the podium in 3rd place, finishing in 16:36, and Anna Izzo followed closely in 4th place, only 9 seconds back. Amelia McDonnell skied strong to finish in 7th. For the J1 boys, Will Fieroh placed 7th overall, rounding the 10-kilometer course in 28:28.

Based on their strong results, Will Fieroh, Maile Sapp, Nina Armstrong, Anna Izzo, and Maeve Peabody were named to the Mid-Atlantic Junior National Ski Team traveling to Solider Hollow in Midway, Utah to compete at the 2012 USSA Cross-Country Junior National Championships, March 3-11, 2012.
