NYSEF athletes Maile, Nina, Anna and Coach Marge packed up the Yukon on New Years' Day and headed to the 2012 US Cross Country Championships in Rumford, ME. After waiting 40 minnutes for the ferry (apparently it doesn't run every 12 minutes on a holiday!), we made it to Black Mountain just in time to preview the sprint course. Warm temps and sunshine made it feel more like spring skiing. There was a lot of rain Sunday night and we woke up to a text message Monday morning from the race organizers that Monday's sprint had been cancelled. So, we adjusted our schedules, went for run and rewaxed skis. The racing started up on Tuesday with the 1.4 km freestyle sprint. The girls raced again on Thursday in the 10 km freestyle. Race of the week goes to NYSEF alumni Elizabeth Izzo who threw down fast a fast 10 km time to grab 41st overall and 1st for UNH!
